Northumberland Ferry from Ferry Website This morning we were up bright and early to catch the Northumberland ferry from Wood Islands on PEI to Nova Scotia. The Northumberland Strait (French: détroit de Northumberland ) is a strait in the southern part of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in eastern Canada. We were in row 1 to get onboard, and ended up straddling rows 3 and 4 between big rigs. Cars were first in. Onboard Northumberland Ferry: PEI to Nova Scotia Once we launched, we discovered we had to go upstairs. Not much to see on the way since it was raining. But the ferry simplifies getting to to Nova Scotia - 75 minutes!
